Disabled Architecture
Why this web site
Hi my name is Shayne Collins, I am a 46year old Architectural Designer from New Zealand (please read more about me under the ‘Aboust Us’ tab). During the past twenty four years I have noticed the lack of resources that provided any commonsense, disability related housing modification options. Most resources provide detailing from local government standards which cover the regulations and or recommendations for the use of public ammenites by the general population.
I hope that I can provide free information and commsense design ideas for disability specific questions for those of you who may be planning to build a new home, add a addition to your existing home or maybe you are wanting to renovate parts of your home. Please feel free to contact me for any advise and I will endevour to answer your queries in a timely manner. All the measurements given within this web site are in metric (mostly in mm-millimetres and m-metres) but I can convert these to approximate imperial (inches and feet).
